Planning an LA trip and need some Los Angeles coffee recommendations?!

Whenever I travel I think one of the first things I research besides how to get into a place and book my accommodations is research coffee shops. I can’t really function without a good strong morning cup. I was living in Los Angeles for a good part of 2 years and so I thought I’d share some of my favourite Los Angeles coffee shops.

*This guide will get edited and updated whenever I find new favourites. I have broken it down via major neighbourhoods so regardless of where you are in the city, you’ll be able to access good coffee!

TRIP PLANNING STARTS HERE

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS

  • Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
  • Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.
  • Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
  • Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.
Eastside
Brew/Well

I discovered Brew/Well one day when my internet went out. I needed a cafe and through some review sites, I found them. If you’re looking for a “coffice” they are great. They are located in Korea Town and there’s free parking in the lot that they share with a Korean market.

*If you are at the Line Hotel in Korea Town, there is now an Alfred Coffee inside. Coffee Commissary, Alfred, Blue Bottle, La Mill, and Groundwork have locations on the Eastside.

Go Get Em Tiger

Shopping on the east side and need a dose of caffeine? Go Get Em Tiger is a cute little cafe next to all the boutiques and restaurants on trendy Larchmont Boulevard.

Mid City
Coffee Commissary

If you’re in the central zone of LA and looking for a good coffee shop, my favourite would be Coffee Commissary on Fairfax. They have other locations throughout the city thankfully but this one is closest to where I spend the most time so this is where you find me. Order the Cubano!! It’s amazing! If you go in the mornings during the weekdays, the Free Range food truck is parked outside till 11 am.

**Locations in Burbank, Culver City, and Hollywood

Alfred Coffee

Alfred Coffee is on Melrose Place tucked behind Melrose Avenue and beside beautiful boutiques. I came across the shop when I was visiting the Melrose Place farmers market on a Sunday. Great coffee but very busy!

*You may have a celeb spotting here! I saw Bieber the last time I came to get coffee.*

Kings Road Cafe on Beverly is a Mid-City favourite. I haven’t been there in ages but I know coffee fiend friends get their dose here.

DTLA
Verve Coffee

This popular Santa Cruz roaster made its way into Los Angeleno coffee addicts hearts. Cute little cafe right in the heart of DTLA. You can do some work here if you a “coffice”.

**Alfred also has locations on Third Street and in West Hollywood.**

Blue Bottle

Oakland’s Blue Bottle moved to downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District and took over the old Handsome Roaster space. They have since opened up on Abbot Kinney In Venice, in Mid-City on Beverly, in Echo Park on the Eastside.

Portland’s much-loved roaster has a location in the Arts District. You can also grab some at the Ace Hotel which is located downtown on Broadway.

West Side
Philz

I’m a huge fan of Philz and so happy they opened up in LA albeit on the West Side and of the city. I came across their coffee while exploring the Bay area and I’ve been hooked to the Jacob’s Wunderbar Dark Roast since. I visited their location is in Santa Monica but have since seen that they opened up a location on Hope Street in DTLA.

Philz Iced Mojito! So good!

Gjusta

This is more of a cafe but they do serve excellent coffee and beverages here. I grabbed a cortado and a ton of food. It’s part of the Gjelina family which is one of my favourite restaurants in Los Angeles.
