HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS

  • Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
  • Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights
  • Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
  • Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.

One morning on my most recent trip to Hong Kong, I visited Sky100. It’s a 360-degree observation deck on the 100th floor at the International Commerce Centre or the ICC. It’s located in West Kowloon and is 118 stories high. It is also the world’s eighth tallest building in height.

To get to Sky100 you ride their high-speed elevator up 100 floors which took only 60 seconds (Chew that gum, my ears popped!). From the deck, you get amazing views of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, and the mountains beyond.

If you want to hang out a bit longer, there’s a cafe and restaurant in Sky100. The day I went, one section was sectioned off for a wedding. You can book your tickets ahead to go up which I did but I recommend seeing what the weather will be like first rather than taking a chance.

Check the website for more information by clicking here. Tickets for adults are $168 HKD.

The most popular Hong Kong view would be Victoria Peak. You get an incredible view from the Hong Kong Island side both day and night. I chose to go in the evening and loved the night time view.

I rode the funicular up to the top but you can walk up there too. Every time I have visited Hong Kong, the weather has been too hot and humid to hike to the top. I would love to go back and visit in the morning or during the golden hour to get different photos of the Harbour.

View #From The Tian Tan Buddha

My friends and I ventured to Lantau Island on this most recent trip. We went over to Tai O fishing village first and then over to see the Tian Tan Buddha. While the journey is another post in itself, I wanted to share a couple of photos of the view from the top where the Buddha sits. I loved seeing another side of Hong Kong, a great contrast to the cosmopolitan city.

A must see viewpoint is from the Avenue of Stars. Located on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, you see Victoria Harbour looking towards Hong Kong Island. Avenue of Stars is walking distance to many other attractions and easy to get to even if you are not staying nearby.

During my last visit, I stayed at the Shangri-La Kowloon which is across the road (I also had an incredible view from my suite which was facing the harbour).

One of my favourite and cheapest experiences in Hong Kong is the Star Ferry. You can get both a great day or night view from the boat. It’s less than a dollar to ride one way.

It has amazing views of both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. My friend and I timed our ride in the evening right as the Symphony of Lights went on and we watched the light show from the ferry.

One evening after going to the night markets, my friend and I went for a drink at Aqua Spirit. It’s a bar and the view is fantastic. The space spans two floors and is located on the penthouse floor of One Peking Road building.

This is not a budget-friendly place. Our bill for 2 drinks and 2 appetizers was $100 so it’s definitely a splurge. Next visit, I would love to go to Ozone at the Ritz Carlton which is the highest bar in Asia.

There are so many places for great views in Hong Kong but these are the handful that I have visited personally. As I do more return visits, I will be sure to dd more to this list!

**If you are looking to stay connected while you are in Hong Kong, considering renting a Y5 Buddy wifi hotspot. I was given a complimentary trial while I was in Hong Kong and I was able to connect several devices at one time. They let me test it but for roughly $5/day, it’s worth it if you are travelling with friends, business colleagues, or a partner. You can also check out their rates for other countries in Asia.**

**Disclaimer: Many thanks to Sky100 for the complimentary visit to their observation deck. As always, all opinions are my own.
