Czech It Out: A Prague Photo Diary
Heading to Prague and need some travel inspiration?
A while back I wrote about Christmas Markets in Europe and included some photos from the market in Prague but I have never shared many photos or much about my experience in the Czech Republic. Having been frustrated with the state of hostels and wanting to stretch out my dollar during my round the world trip, I decided to take up offers from friends and acquaintances who wanted to host me. I had always heard great things from my friends about Prague so I decided to go last-minute.
The last few weeks I have been working alongside on a social media campaign for Czech Republic Tourism. It’s been really great exploring more of the country visually through photos on Instagram and reading about places on the Czech Tourism’s website. I am hoping to return to explore more of the country. I know most people like myself focus on Prague but there’s so much more to this stunning country.
When I went to Prague, I flew on an Easy Jet flight from Amsterdam. I stayed with my Canadian friend Matt for about 5 days. He was teaching English there at the time and was kind enough to let me crash on his couch while I explored the city. It was in December and at that point, I was settling into my annual I dislike Christmas mode. I realized that being in Europe during Christmas as someone who is not a fan was a bad idea. But alas I had not planned to be in Europe in the winter but life situations just made it so.
I wandered aimlessly and had no pre-planned itinerary. I don’t remember the fine details of my visit anymore but luckily I have photos that help jog my memory. I remember visiting Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, taking a free walking tour by Sandeman’s, going to a very smoky local pub with my friend Matt, I remember finding a cheap (for Europe) Thai massage place and getting one, the cool looking Metro system, and of course, admiring Tancici Dum or Frank Gehry’s Dancing House.
Here are some photos from my hard drive. I realize that my photography skills have increased over the years and so much of what I shot back then was pretty horrible and I don’t have a lot of photos of this gorgeous city.
