Epilator | What Is It And Why I Stopped Shaving My Legs

Happy 2018 dear friends!! I thought I would write a post because it’s been forever just to warm me back up into the whole blogging thing. It’s going to be a funny post but it’s going to ease me back into the habit of blogging. Epilator. Do you know what it is?
Here’s a definition of epilator from good old trusty Wikipedia:
An epilator is an electrical device used to remove hair by mechanically grasping multiple hairs simultaneously and pulling them out. The way in which epilators pull out hair is similar to waxing, although unlike waxing, they do not remove cells from the epithelium of the epidermis.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS
- Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
- Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.

- Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.

When I started using my epilator, I let my leg hairs grow in. NO ONE was going to be touching my legs and I would only really be noticing them when working out in the gym. So they grew. So gross but natural and normal. Then rip rip rip rip. I yanked out the hairs on my legs with the epilator. I have a pretty high pain threshold so things like tattoos, waxing, etc do not bother me. When my leg hair grew back in, it was very fine. So fine that even when it does grow back I don’t notice the hair unless I’m staring at my legs in a yoga class.
Two things I can’t epilate are my armpits and my bikini region. I can do the bikini line but nothing further in. Ouch. So I get a wax when necessary for bikini area and I do shave my pits. So yes I still use a razor for that but not as often and it’s such a small area so my razors last quite long. I am not sure if this is something you would be into but it’s seriously life-changing for me. I love not having to spend so much time in the shower shaving. When I was shaving my legs the hair grows back so course and is stubbly. Now my hair grows back fine and even way less it seems. So if it has grown in a bit, it doesn’t bother me because it’s itchy and I barely notice it.
Funny story: When I got to Spain I forgot about electricity conversion. So of course, I killed my epilator’s power cord. I plugged it into my global adaptor but it blew up on me. Hahaha! It still works but I need to buy a replacement cord for North America. I couldn’t find cord replacement that was a decent price and could ship quickly enough so I went to my local electronics store similar to Best Buy (called Media Markt). I bought a new epilator but when I get back to California I’ll get a power cord for my other one since the one I bought is a Europe cord. You don’t really see epilators much in the USA or Canada. Here in Europe, they have loads of epilators available.
My old epilator was a Braun and I was happy with it so I bought another. There are other brands to choose from but I tend to stick with one if I’m happy with it. Here’s the model I have:
