IMA The Indianapolis Museum: There’s Culture In Indiana
Planning a visit to Indianapolis? Add the IMA to your itinerary!
I admit that I didn’t think I would actually find anything interesting to do in Indianapolis. I had been there in the past and it usually was a two-day side trip from Chicago. Visits to Indy were always an afterthought or included a family event in order to warrant a trip. My opinion of Indianapolis shifted after a visit to the IMA!
Right before a trip to Toronto, I fractured my tooth. I had to get an emergency root canal. Because I don’t have dental insurance, instead of paying an exorbitant amount of money to a dentist, I flew to see my dentist cousin in Indianapolis. When I landed at the airport and was driving towards his place, I noticed a billboard. The IMA or the Indianapolis Museum of Art was hosting Ai Weiwei’s “According To What?” Exhibit.
OMG! Quaint ol‘ Indiana and the amazing Chinese contemporary artist. I was beyond thrilled!!!
I went to the IMA with my little cousin Nadalie. We enjoyed both the exhibit as well as the rest of the museum. Admission to the museum is free except for special exhibits. The Ai Weiwei exhibit cost me $12 and was definitely worth the price. The IMA has 4 floors and its permanent collection surprisingly includes paintings by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Cezanne, Monet, and more. I was really surprised by the IMA. It was really impressive. I would almost recommend a little side trip if you are in Chicago since it’s only about 3 hours away. It’s that good!
Here are some photos from the IMA:
I’m feeling a bit crabbbbbbby
The permanent collection at the IMA is quite good. I was really surprised to see some classics as well as their American contemporary exhibit. There was also a section dedicated to African and Asian art. I didn’t shoot much in those galleries but it was impressive.
Monet is at the IMA
Rembrandt is here too
