Marriott Coronado Island Resort And Spa | A Perfect Southern California Staycation

Marriott Coronado Island Resort & Spa

Even though I have taken a break from extensive travelling this year, I still need the occasional getaway so I don’t get stir crazy. I recently stayed at the gorgeous Marriott Coronado Island Resort And Spa and had a perfect 2-day staycation, not far from home in San Diego.

My Suite

The Marriott Coronado was originally built in the late 1980s but recently went through some renovations throughout the hotel. The suites are perfect for the modern traveller. There plugs everywhere. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious. There is a big desk area to work, a huge flat screen tv, and a mini-fridge. One thing I loved was being able to connect to my personal streaming accounts in my suite. I could access networks like Netflix, Hulu, etc and connect to my account to watch tv and movies rather than pay for a movie.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS

  • Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
  • Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.
  • Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
  • Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.

Resort Amenities

The resort has many amenities for every kind of traveller and in the two days and nights I stayed, I tried out almost everything. There is a swimming pool, a lap pool, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a basketball court, bikes to use, and fitness classes.

The gorgeous 5500 square foot spa just underwent a massive renovation. There’s a quiet area outside and inside to relax in as well as a steam room which you can use before and after treatments. The spa uses and sells amazing products like Elemis and Eminence. I had the 50-minute Aromatherapy Journey Massage and it was divine.

Food At The Hotel

The food and beverage program at the Marriott Coronado is run by Chef Michael Poompan who has won many awards and accolades. He focuses on locally sourced ingredients and cuisine that is not only delicious but healthy too. Since I have been focusing on getting healthy and maintaining my health and wellness while travelling, I love that there are healthy dining options at the resort.

Whether you’re a solo traveller, a group of girlfriends, a family, or a couple, the Marriott Coronado Island Resort and Spa is an amazing place for a quick getaway. With delicious cuisine, world-class amenities, and suites even a finicky traveller will love, it’s a perfect destination for a distant holiday or a local staycation. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2-night stay and am already toying with the idea of going back with my friends for a girlfriend getaway.
