Railay Beach: A Photo Diary and Things To Do

Railay Beach

Going to Thailand? Add Railay Beach to your plans!

After a few days on Koh Phi Phi, I headed on a bus and boat to my next destination which was Krabi. When I was in Krabi I met a friendly group of travellers at my hostel. Several of them were planning to go to Railay Beach the next day. I decided to join in on their excursion. Some friends of mine from Vancouver had gone to Railay on their honeymoon and raved about it.  It sounded like it had more of a relaxed vibe, which is what I was needing after a few days on Phi Phi.

Here are photos from our day trip:

Things to do at Railay Beach

  • We hiked up to a viewpoint even though some of our companions weren’t properly equipped with the right shoes. My friend Adam and I heard that rock climbing is popular here so we packed trail shoes with us.
  • We went inside a cave to look at stalagmites and stalactites. Watch out for bat droppings!
  • We ate Thai crepes! I remember having a Nutella and banana one.
  • Relax on the beach
  • After our long day at Railay, we took the longtail boat back to Krabi

Note: It was overcast that day but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t hot. The sun was beating down on us through the clouds and we all still managed to get color, everything from lobster to bronze.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS

  • Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
  • Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights
  • Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
  • Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.
