San Diego Hotels | A Round Up Of Hotels In America’s Finest City!
Researching San Diego hotels for your trip?
When I didn’t live in the San Diego area, I would fly down to see my then-boyfriend who lived in San Diego as well as attend trade shows at the San Diego Convention Center. Now that I live here it’s not too often that I stay in hotels but I have had a few staycations in the last few years. I thought it was about time I did a round-up of real reviews from my stay at San Diego hotels. Please note that I tend to stay in hotels that are 4 star and above. I’m a bit older and I do love the finer things in life but I also love a great value. So many of these stays were a great deal, points, etc.

Now For A Round-Up Of San Diego Hotels, I Have Stayed In
Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego
A friend of mine had a couple of days off and decided to do a quick trip to San Diego. She invited me to have a staycation and join her at the Grand Hyatt. The location is right near the water next to the convention center and Seaport Village. We had a nice suite and we were able to use the hot tub which was situated on the rooftop. I had previously come here to watch the Red Bull Air Races and it has excellent harbour views. Seaport Village is pretty touristy but we did a quick stroll.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS
- Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
- Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.
- Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
- Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.
Hard Rock Hotel
I stayed here while attending a conference when the Hard Rock first opened. The room was brand new so it was nice and shiny. My only issue is late at night they had music going quite loud since there is a club down below. I would classify this hotel more for a party vibe say for bachelor or bachelorette parties and the like. I’m sure on weekdays it’s a bit tamer but I’m older and I’m paying for a room I need peace and quiet. The best part about this Hard Rock is the Nobu. I never have a bad meal there.

Kimpton Solamar
This would be my most recent stay at a San Diego hotel. I stayed here with my friend from Spain and we both enjoyed the hotel. We had been eating out the whole time so we actually walked over to the Ralph’s to pick up some food and ate in our room with a nice bottle of Rioja. I’m a fan of the Kimpton chain. I have stayed at one in Portland as well as Chicago. They always have great service. My only gripe here is if you park your car overnight it is $50 because parking is tough in the Gaslamp.

I loved my stay at the Marriott Coronado. It was an amazing San Diego staycation. The property was wonderful from the suite to the meals, to the spa, and more. Plus Coronado is so lovely! I often forget how close it is and how I should go there more often.

Rancho Valencia Hotel
While I didn’t actually do an overnight at the Rancho Valencia, I did spend the whole day there, use the gym, and order room service. My friend had a business trip here and was out for most of the day but told me to hang out. So I did and I took it to the next level by using the gym, taking a bath, and ordering room service. He said the hotel and service were amazing. I trust him completely and I loved all that I experienced and that is why I have added it here.

US Grant
It has been a while since I stayed at the US Grant but when I did stay it was lovely. There is so much history to this hotel. I’m a Starwood Preferred Member so I do enjoy staying at their collection of hotels because I will always get great service and perks like late checkout. During my stay, I had an updated suite so it was very luxurious and spacious. I was able to enjoy a few cocktails at the hotel bar and remember loving the vibe as well as the fruit infused vodka the bartender had made and copied his idea at home. Looking at some of the photos online, it looks like some of the rooms have been updated more recently. As a loyal SPG member, I would most likely stay again!
