Tam Coc | A Vietnam Photo Diary From Ha Long Bay On Land!
Planning to travel to Hanoi? Be sure to do a day trip to Tam Coc!
If you’re planning to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, consider doing a day trip to Tam Coc. It is also known as the Ha Long Bay on land with beautiful limestone karts surrounded by rice fields. I joined a day tour from my hotel in Hanoi to visit Tam Coc, which means three caves.
We were picked up by a van and it took roughly 2.5 hours to get there. Tam Coc is also known as Ha Long Bay on land since there are karst limestone cliffs surrounded by rice fields rather than the sea. The tour included a bicycle ride through a village called Van Lam and then a little trip down the Ngo Dong River. We rowed through the Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba caves on a rowboat rowed by women. The best part of the boat ride was the woman who was maneuvering the boat rowed with her legs rather than her arms.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS
- Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
- Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.
- Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
- Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.
