Travel Comfortably And Stylishly

Need some ideas for what to wear on the airplane?

My concerns these days when planning and packing for my flight are to be comfortable. Perhaps it’s getting older and wanting to be comfortable on the plane over wanting to be well dressed. I think it’s possible to travel comfortably and be stylish without looking like a slob.

I’m pretty happy that the whole trend of fleece and sweatpants that have been going on for a while. I’m obsessed with sweatpants. Who doesn’t want to be comfortable? When I’m sitting on a plane for 5 hours or more who wants to wear something constricting? Not me. I want to be wrapped up in fleece or soft cotton personally. I bought a handful of sweatpants at the Nike Employee store in Portland and then I got the Uniqlo fleece joggers for $20. If you want super crazy quality sweatpants, my favourites are by menswear brand Reigning Champ.

If you’re going for a casual look on your bottom half for a long flight, just make sure that your top half is a bit sleeker so you look a bit pulled together. Throw on a nice button by Everlane or Steven Alan or a cool army anorak so that you look put together and be sure to keep your face and hair on point.

Here’s a photo I took from above rocking my typical “airport kit”. Because North American airports still insist we take off our shoes when going through a big-ass scanner and x-ray, I’ve been wearing shoes I can slip off easily. Birkenstocks are my best friend these days since they are not only comfortable but on trend. If you told my 14-year-old self I would love Birkenstocks, I would have been mortified. But hey…never say never!
