Looking at Vancouver Hotels For Your Upcoming Trip?
If you’re planning a trip to Vancouver, you may be pouring over some travel sites, looking up Vancouver hotels, reading reviews, and deciding where to stay. Even though I’m from Vancouver and usually stay with family or friends, I’ve had the opportunity to stay many hotels in the city. Whether having a staycation or staying in hotels for work-related events, I know the ins and outs of the hotels in the city. While I haven’t stayed in all the hotels, I’ve at the very least gone inside to either eat at its restaurant or done a site tour.

Please note that my choice of hotels is in the 4 stars or higher range even when unsponsored. If you are looking for budget hotels I would suggest changing the price search windows to reflect that on your hotel search or try using accommodation company like Air Bnb.
Downtown Vancouver Hotels
Fairmont Vancouver Hotel
The Fairmont Vancouver Hotel is centrally located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. If you are taking the Skytrain into the city, it’s about a 5-minute walk from the City Centre Station stop. The hotel was built in 1939 and its once copper top has turned distinct green! The hotel is close to many great restaurants, cafes, and shopping!
Most of the rooms have been renovated and they have flat screen TVs, coffee/tea makers, and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are a bit on the small side since they are bathrooms of yore. My only issue but not a big one. If you would like free Wi-Fi, just join Fairmont’s loyalty program for free access!
They renovated their restaurant and bar downstairs. It’s called Notch 8 and they serve excellent cocktails. I didn’t have anything to eat but Fairmont Hotels tend to have a great food and beverage program.

Listel Hotel
The Listel Hotel is located on popular Robson Street in downtown Vancouver. Many people walk by without noticing the hotel, which is great because I like quiet boutique hotels. There’s a great restaurant on the property called Forage helmed by Chef Chris Whittaker. If you’re a fan of art, the hotel is filled with a ton of art and even has special exhibits.

Opus Hotel
Opus Hotel is a boutique hotel located in the Yaletown neighbourhood. I’m not the hugest fan of Yaletown since it’s a bit yuppified but I do love staying at the Opus. Their staff are super friendly, rooms are modern and updated. You also get a free phone to use which has data and is connected to the concierge if you need help. Rooms have an iPad in the room which has hundreds of newspapers from all over the world. Also a fan of their bathroom amenities, Malin and Goetz! There’s a coffee shop downstairs along with La Pentola and the Opus Bar.

Somebody loved room service! It’s a rare treat!
Order the kaiserschmarrn at La Pentola. Trust me!
Vancouver Hotel Close To Airport
Fairmont Vancouver Airport
I’m a huge fan of Fairmont hotels. I stayed at the location at the Vancouver International Airport a few years back while I was exploring Richmond. I loved this hotel. It’s modern and conveniently located next to duh…the airport but also the Skytrain (above ground subway). It’s 27 minutes to downtown Vancouver or a few minutes into central Richmond. I was worried about the sound of the airplanes taking off and landing but the rooms are soundproof. So great views and no noise!

I stayed on the club floor and got to snack all the time!! It’s awesome!
Had a delicious meal at The Globe, the restaurant within the hotel
Other Vancouver hotels to consider (I have not stayed but heard great reviews from friends):
Fairmont Pacific Rim – the newest addition to the Fairmont Hotels in Vancouver
Rosewood Hotel Georgia – Rosewood Hotels are an ace brand and Hawksworth Restaurant and Bel Cafe are awesome!
Shangri-La Hotel – I like Shangri-La Hotels and while I’ve not stayed at this Vancouver location, I have had food at Jean Georges! Yum!
Westin Bayshore – I have not stayed here for ages but as a Starwood Preferred Hotel member, I always love Westin Hotels. The location right at Stanley Park is awesome too.

HELPFUL GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS
- Flights: Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. I like these two booking sites because they both search all websites and airlines around the globe including budget airlines.
- Accommodations: I use Booking.com or Tripadvisor to find the best rates on hotels. Hotels.com offers a free night after booking 10 nights.
- Get up to $40 off your first Air Bnb stay by using this code!
- Travel Insurance: Having gotten sick on my travels in the past, I never travel without being insured. You never know when something may happen. For my round the world trip and extended long-term travel, I use World Nomads. For other trips, I have used Roam Right and they cover activities like extreme sports.
